The car sports the company's new design language first introduced on the current Lancer model and will be marketed as the ASX in Europe, RVR nameplate in Japan and the Outlander Sport in North America. With this model Mitsubishi tried to put together a capable and fuel efficient small SUV that is also good looking and enjoyable to drive. The new ASX model comes with either front- or all-wheel drive and will field different engine configurations according to market demand. For the US market Mitsubishi prepared a 2.0L petrol engine, for Europe a 1.6L direct injection and turbocharged petrol and a 1.8L turbodiesel unit, while in Japan the RVR will field a 1.8L petrol coupled with an INVECS-III continuously variable transmission.
